“Honouring Hundertwasser’s legacy, this project is a harmonious community collaboration resulting in a seamless blend of cultural narratives, Māori and Pakeha, local artists and crafts people. Rammed earth, organic materials and rich, earthy hues effortlessly create spaces for the community to come together.” ADNZ
Combining Hundertwasser’s philosophy; “When we dream alone it is only a dream, but when many dream together it is the beginning of a new reality”, and Māori whakatauki; “Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, ēngari taku toa he toa takatini,” (success is not the work of one, but of many), the building is a true collaboration. It realises the 10 year vision of Norma Shepherd and the Kawakawa Hundertwasser Park Charitable Trust.
A collaboration between Avail Pacific, Kawakawa Hundertwasser Park Charitable Trust, the community of Kawakawa, Far North Holdings, Pita Tipene, Ngati Hine, Far North District Council, Northland Regional Council, PGF, Tourism Infrastructure, Hundertwasser Non-Profit Organisation, Harnett Builders, Webb Contracting, PK Engineering, SIREWALL, Christine Hawthorn Landscaping, Mark and Tui of Rogue Pony, and Ngati Hine artists.
This award is a culmination of a community effort.
